Tips for traveling to Bermuda

Bermuda is a lovely island; famous for its pink sand beaches, singing tree frogs, and luxury hotels. For many people who have not had the chance to visit Bermuda, the dream of going on a trip to Bermuda still lingers on.

It is located less than two hours by airplane from many major metropolitan areas in the United States, including Baltimore, Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Charlotte, North Carolina. However, because traveling to Bermuda is so pleasant and convenient, it can also be very expensive.

Here are a few tips about how you can save money on a trip to Bermuda.

When to book a flight to Bermuda

First, consider booking your inbound and outbound flights on a Tuesday or Thursday rather than any other day of the week. These are less popular travel days, and you can sometimes get flights for as much as three hundred dollars less if you travel on a Tuesday or Wednesday than if you travel on a Friday or Saturday.

Native Bermudians are familiar with this trick and often use it to get cheap flights to the United States.

Where to visit in Bermuda for greater savings

Another money saving tip is to travel at the outer edges of the popular tourist season. Bermuda’s climate is similar to South Carolina’s, and most tourists want to travel to the island during peak “beach weather,” from May through September. However, April and October can also be very nice times to visit Bermuda.

The weather may be a bit cooler so these aren’t ideal times for real sun worshipers, but there are plenty of fun things to do in Bermuda besides sit on the beach! If you plan to go to Bermuda for the shopping, dining, or sightseeing, it won’t matter to you if it isn’t eighty degrees out.

Hotels and air fare are both much cheaper during the “off season.”

Where not to book your stay in Bermuda

Another Bermuda travel idea is to avoid the major hotels in Hamilton and St. George’s and stay in a smaller bed and breakfast. The smaller hotels can be half the price of the larger ones, and many of them offer a very charming experience.

Although there is nothing on the island as grand as the two “Princess” hotels, there are many smaller and less expensive hotels that are every bit as comfortable and feel more personal in many ways.

Try calling around to smaller hotels to see if they participate in any package deals where you can get an inexpensive flight or other add-ons for booking a night at the hotel. If you plan to travel with a bigger group (three or four couples), you may find that the least expensive and nicest accommodations on the island aren’t a hotel at all, but a rental villa.

There are many three-bedroom and four-bedroom villas on the island available for a very low cost compared with an equivalent number of hotel rooms. Some of them even come with a housekeeper and cook, so that you can truly relax the entire week.

With these great money-saving tips, you won’t have to break the bank just to visit Bermuda; what’s more, you will get to experience, first-hand, one of the world’s best destinations!
