Cayo District
Banana Bank Lodge: This Cayo getaway on the Belize River is just the ticket for adventurous travellers looking for something different. Birds and wildlife abound on this 4000 acres of jungle and ranch land.
Clarissa Falls Resort: Simply nice and nicely simple; an inexpensive lodging alternative. Situated on the bank of the Mopan River, just west of San Ignacio, this operation is well run by a charming Belizean lady and boasts a great restaurant, as well.
duPlooy’s Jungle Lodge: A “birder’s” paradise, duPlooy’s was one of the first jungle lodges in the Cayo District. Situated above the Macal River, and close to San Ignacio, the full range of Cayo activities is available here: Canoeing, trips to Maya ruins, caves, etc.
Ek’ Tun: Your Private Jungle Paradise–an intimate, two cottage resort nestled in the jungle on the bank of the Macal River, about ten miles west of San Ignacio. Beautiful gardens and personalized service set this experience apart from the others.
Five Sisters Lodge: This Belizean-owned lodge in the Cayo District is a tranquil setting, and an ideal location for exploring Caracol and the Mountain Pine Ridge area.

Orange Walk District
Lamanai Outpost Lodge: Situated on a hill overlooking the New River Lagoon, this resort is just 1/2 mile from the Maya ruins of Lamanai. Here you are immersed in the flora and fauna of Belize, its more recent history, and archaeology. Visitors are encouraged to participate with on-site wildlife researchers and archaeologists.
Programme for Belize: The 260,000 acres of the Rio Bravo Conservation and Management Area is managed by Programme for Belize. The recent addition of tourist facilities allows visitors to experience the pristine habitat, abundant wildlife, and cultural heritage of Belize.
Stann Creek District
Jaguar Reef Lodge: This resort was reviewed in our early, “print edition only” days; and will eventually be updated for this web edition. Follow this link to their website. Several duplex units, some ‘beachfront’ and some set back, set on the sands of a lovely stretch of beach. Located in Hopkins, just south of Dangriga.
Luba Hati Hotel: Sorry folks; Luba Hati in Placencia is temporarily closed, as it is between ownerships. We will advise when it reopens.
Toledo District
Hickatee Cottages: A small new property near Punta Gorda town offers moderately priced accommodations in a jungle setting. Not yet reviewed by BR. Visit their website for details.
The Cayes
Cayo Espanto: “Your private island;” just southwest of Ambergris Caye, offers the ultimate in a private getaway for those who can afford the luxury! This palm tree-dotted island with four unique bungalows, each with the Caribbean lapping at its doorstep, and a private plunge pool, also serves excellent meals prepared with fresh tropical ingredients.
